Indore Toxic Water Tragedy: Tender Delay Alleged, Over 15 Deaths Linked to Pipeline Negligence

A major controversy has erupted in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area over alleged administrative negligence linked to a toxic water tragedy. The tender to replace the Narmada water pipeline was issued on August 8, with the last date for submission on September 15 and opening scheduled for September 17. However, the tender was reportedly opened nearly 100 days later on December 29. During this period, residents consumed contaminated water allegedly containing dangerous bacteria such as fecal coliform, E. coli, Klebsiella, and suspected cholera-related elements. Over 15 deaths are feared, while several people fell seriously ill. Youth Congress staged protests demanding accountability and removal of responsible officials, alleging that the delay proved fatal. Authorities say water samples are under investigation and action is underway.
