Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka is set to visit India from August 24-26, along with a delegation of senior officials. Notably, this is the first time when the Fiji leader is visiting India in his present capacity.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during his visit, Rabuka will meet and hold discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visit President Droupadi Murmu.

“During his visit to New Delhi, Prime Minister Rabuka is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 25 August 2025. Prime Minister Modi will host a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary,” said the official statement.

Earlier, in August 2024, President Droupadi Murmu visited Fiji.

The Fiji Prime Minister is also expected to deliver a talk on ‘Ocean of Peace’ at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) in New Delhi, according to the official statement.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasised that Prime Minister Rabuka’s visit reflects the deep-rooted and time-tested partnership between India and Fiji. It highlights the shared commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation across various sectors and to further strengthen the strong people-to-people connections.

India and Fiji share a relationship grounded in mutual respect, collaboration, and cultural affinity. As noted by the MEA earlier, India has played a key role in Fiji’s development journey, consistently supporting its efforts in nation-building, particularly in priority sectors and through capacity-building initiatives.

PM Modi’s Visit To Fiji

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Fiji on 19 November 2014 marked a significant milestone not just in India-Fiji relations, but also in India’s broader engagement with the Pacific Island Countries. During the visit, the two nations signed three key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs): one for providing a Line of Credit to set up a Co-Generation Plant in Fiji; another focused on collaboration in diplomatic training; and a third concerning the allocation of land for setting up diplomatic missions in each other’s capitals.
