Indore Water Crisis: Contaminated Supply Causes Deaths, Authorities Face Severe Negligence Questions

Indore’s Bhagirathpura faces a deadly water crisis as contaminated supply has claimed the lives of over a dozen residents. Preliminary tests reveal E. coli, fecal coliform, Vibrio cholera, and other harmful bacteria in the water, causing severe illness and diarrhea. Despite repeated complaints over three years by local councillors and citizens, the municipal authorities delayed pipeline replacement and essential maintenance. Only low-level officials have faced action so far, while senior officers, including the municipal commissioner, mayor, and water department heads, remain unaccountable. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has demanded a status report today, seeking clarity on responsibility and preventive measures. Public anger grows as systemic negligence continues to put lives at risk in one of India’s largest cities.
