‘Sacred Games’ star Elnaaz Norouzi has spoken openly about how she looks at bold and intimate scenes on screen. For her, it is never about shock value but has always been about meaning. In a recent interview, she got candid and shared that nothing is a straight yes or no for her.
Elnaaz Norouzi about on-screen intimacy
Talking to News 18, she explained that even a kiss or an intimate moment should serve a reason. “Even something like a kissing or intimate scene has to serve a purpose. Is it adding anything to the story at that moment? Is it necessary? Does it change something in the narrative?”
She added everything depends on how a scene is written and why it exists. In her words, “I think it really depends on the situation and, more importantly, on how it’s written.”For Elnaaz, intention matters more than how it looks on screen. “If it does, then it should be there. But if it’s included just for the sake of it, then you have to question why it’s there at all. In that case, I can choose not to do it.”Elnaaz also spoke about how important communication is on a film set. She feels actors should be allowed to speak and ask questions. “I feel that if you’re working with a good director, a strong script, and great producers, you’ll understand why you need to say what you do.” She added that if she does not understand something, she speaks up. “And if you don’t, I have a voice — I can always talk to my director, try to understand it. After all, it’s a collaborative project.”This open approach is something she follows in every project. She believes comfort and clarity help actors give better performances.
‘Sacred Games’ scene that almost made her quit
Talking about ‘Sacred Games’ Season 2, Elnaaz revealed something very personal. She said there was an intimate scene written with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. That scene almost made her say no to the show. “On Sacred Games Season 2, there was an intimate scene with Nawazuddin Siddiqui that was written in the script. I was almost about to say no to the show because I didn’t want to do that scene.”What changed her mind was director Anurag Kashyap. She praised the way he handled the situation. “He was so amazing. He invited me and my entire team home. We sat over lunch. We spoke about the scene. He told me how he’s going to shoot it, so I’m comfortable doing it.”That talk helped her trust the process. “We needed that scene because it was important to show in the series, but he also made sure that I’m comfortable while doing it.”
Why did ‘Mastiii 4’ feel different to her?
Elnaaz also shared her thoughts on ‘Mastiii 4’ in another interview with IANS. At first, she was not keen on doing a sex comedy. She almost said no. But things changed after hearing the script. “When Milap narrated the script to me, I realised how well it is written for 2025.”She felt the women had stronger roles this time. “The women had so much more to do, and it felt like an equal script to me.” She also liked that it had meaning. “I also felt it had a good message at the end and was not like the other instalments.”Elnaaz was careful about how women were shown. “The women in the film are portrayed as careless, but not in any other way. In fact, they are depicted as quite smart.”The actress also spoke about costumes. “We spoke a lot with Milap. We made sure the costumes were not vulgar. We paid heed to that as we wanted it to look graceful.”She ended by saying she wants to change one idea about sex comedies. “Such films don’t only have to be about men, it can be about women as well. That’s exactly what Mastiii 4 shows.”
