After Digvijaya Singh, Shashi Tharoor too says party needs to be strengthened

NEW DELHI: Congress functionary Shashi Tharoor on Sunday came out in support of party colleague Digvijaya Singh’s views, saying the party’s organisation should be strengthened and there should be some discipline. On Saturday, ahead of the CWC meeting, Singh had stirred a controversy by praising RSS-BJP’s organisational power as he shared Narendra Modi’s old picture on X: “I found this picture on Quora. It is very impressive. In what way did a grassroots swayamsevak of RSS and worker of Jan Sangh who sat on the floor at the feet of others became a CM and PM. This is the power of organisation.” On the sidelines of Congress’s 140th foundation day celebrations, Tharoor said, “Even I want our organisation to strengthen. Also, there should be discipline in our organisation.”On X, Tharoor, who was seen seated next to Singh at the event, said, “Since its first session in 1885, the party has remained a cornerstone of the nation’s democratic journey and political evolution. The occasion was marked with solemnity and camaraderie at Indira Bhawan today.”During the day, Singh said he has already stated whatever he had to say, and categorically assured that Congress was “united”. He targeted BJP for attempting to “sow discord” within the “Nehru-Gandhi family”. “I have basic differences and am opposed to their ideology (BJP-RSS). I have and will continue to fight against such people,” Singh said. On his Saturday’s remarks, he said, “Every organisation needs strengthening. Rahul Gandhi has started this initiative (of strengthening the organisation) from districts level and below. The process for that is underway and it will be completed soon.”Meanwhile, Congress’ Salman Khurshid said, “We have a lot in the party… and others should learn from it. We certainly don’t need to learn from RSS as we oppose that ideology.”
