‘No clue’: H-1B visa holder travels to India on November 2, visa revoked on December 15

'No clue': H-1B visa holder travels to India on November 2, visa revoked on December 15

An H-1B visa holder shared the ordeal of random visa revocations that the US Department of State started this December without giving any explanation. The person shared that they had to travel to India on November 2 because of an emergency related to the health crisis of the father and the return ticket was booked on December 23. But on December 15, the person received a visa revocation notice that says the person will have to re-apply for a new visa if they want to enter the US. “Please be advised that your US visa was revoked y the US Department of State on December 15, 2025. This action is based on the fact that subsequent to visa issuance, information has come to light indicating that you may be ineligible for your visa. Please note that you will be unable to travel on your current US visa. If you would like to travel to the United State, you must re-apply for a new visa,” the mail issued by the US Consular General, Kolkata read. The visa holder was clueless and they claimed to have no criminal case of DUI in the past. And the visa revocation too took place when they traveled outside the US. Read: US revoking visas for no reason, best thing to do is….: Immigration attorneys break down new trendGetting a new visa would involve getting an appointment at the consulate, for which the wait time could be a year in India, as scheduled appointments have been deferred by six to nine months, as social media vetting is taking longer. New visa applications will also have to go through the new social media vetting.

Why visas are getting revoked

Immigration attorneys noticed that several H-1B visas were revoked since the beginning of December. Visas get revoked when there is some offence, unknown so far, that comes to light. But several people are claiming that they do not even have a traffic ticket. The visas are also getting revoked when the individual is traveling outside the US. As long as one stays inside the country, the visa revocation means nothing — they just need to get a new stamping which will be required when they re-enter the country. Some visa revocations are related to present or past employers, if they are lacklisted, or under investigation, people shared on social media.
