Bangladesh Violence: Bangladesh Summons Indian High Commissioner Amid Protests Over Minority Safety

In a significant diplomatic development, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Indian High Commissioner to discuss the prevailing situation in the country, according to reports in Bangladeshi media. This comes amid growing concerns over the safety of minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh and sustained protests across several parts of India. India has repeatedly conveyed its position to Bangladesh, urging the authorities to ensure the safety, security, and rights of minority communities. New Delhi has also emphasized its support for democratic values and the rule of law in Bangladesh, while calling for accountability in incidents of violence. Meanwhile, protests continue outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, where workers from various organizations, including BSP-affiliated groups, gathered to express anger over alleged attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Security has been significantly tightened in the area, with multiple layers of barricades installed and senior Delhi Police officials deployed on the ground. During the protest, demonstrators attempted to move past barricades, leading to heightened alertness by security forces. Police used loudspeaker announcements to appeal for calm and urged protesters to disperse, stating that permission for the demonstration at the location had not been granted. Authorities confirmed that while the situation remains tense, it is under control. Protesters said their demonstration was aimed at drawing international attention to the alleged atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh and demanding stronger diplomatic pressure from India. The situation is being closely monitored as both diplomatic engagement and street-level protests continue.
