BMC Election 2026: Seat-Sharing Formula Finalised Between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray Ahead of BMC Polls

Maharashtra’s political temperature has risen sharply ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, with major developments emerging from alliance negotiations. According to sources, the seat-sharing formula between the parties led by Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray has largely been finalised, with only a few seats remaining under discussion. The final round of talks is currently underway, and there is strong speculation that the Thackeray brothers will officially announce their alliance by tomorrow. Sources indicate that the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, is likely to contest around 145 to 150 seats. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is expected to contest the remaining seats under the alliance arrangement. However, negotiations are reportedly stuck on five to six constituencies, where both parties are keen to assert their influence. A resolution is expected either late tonight or by tomorrow. Meanwhile, nomination filing for the BMC elections begins today and will continue until December 30. On the other side, meetings within the ruling Mahayuti alliance intensified late last night at the Chief Minister’s residence, Varsha Bungalow. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the situation, and sources say clarity on Mahayuti’s seat-sharing is expected by this afternoon. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) appears fragmented after a poor performance in the recent Assembly elections. Congress has decided to contest the Mumbai civic polls independently, citing strong performances in recent municipal and panchayat elections, while aligning with MVA partners in other cities. The BMC polls are scheduled for January 15, with results expected on January 16. All eyes are now on how these evolving alliances reshape Maharashtra’s political landscape.
