Tata Motors has expanded the powertrain options for the Harrier and Safari by introducing a turbo-petrol engine. Both SUVs are now offered with the 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol unit, marking the first petrol option for the two models.

The engine, which debuted earlier on the Tata Sierra, has been tuned differently for the Harrier and Safari, an increase of 10 hp and 25 Nm over the Sierra. In these applications, it produces 170 PS and 280 Nm of torque, higher than the output in the Sierra, reflecting the larger size and weight of the two SUVs. With this update, the petrol versions match their diesel counterparts in power output.

Feature and variant updates introduced

Alongside the new engine, Tata has introduced feature updates and revised the variant line-up for both models. The Harrier and Safari now come with a 14.5-inch Samsung infotainment touchscreen, paired with a 10-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos tuning. The system supports Tata’s Arcade App Suite and built-in navigation that can function without network connectivity.

Several features previously offered on the Harrier EV have also been extended to the petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari. These include a digital interior rear-view mirror with an integrated dash camera, front and rear camera washers as part of the 360-degree camera system, memory-based outside rear-view mirrors with auto reverse dip, and a sliding front armrest.

Tata has also introduced petrol-exclusive ‘Ultra’ trims at the top of the range. The Harrier petrol is available in Smart, Pure X, Adventure X, Adventure X+, Fearless X, Fearless X+ and the new Fearless Ultra trim. The Harrier is additionally offered in Dark, Stealth and Red Dark versions on select variants.

The Safari petrol is offered in Smart, Pure X, Adventure X, Adventure X+, Accomplished X, Accomplished X+ and the new Accomplished Ultra trim. Like the Harrier, the Safari is also available in Dark, Stealth and Red Dark versions.

In terms of design, the petrol variants remain visually identical to their diesel counterparts. Tata has retained the same exterior and interior styling across fuel options.
