Vivek Oberoi clarifies comment on SRK’s stardom after facing backlash

'Today's generation knows Ranbir Kapoor, not Raj Kapoor,' says Vivek Oberoi clarifying his comment on Shah Rukh Khan's stardom after facing backlash for it: 'Content was delivered, context wasn't'

Vivek Oberoi recently found himself at the centre of backlash on the internet fter a comment he made about Shah Rukh Khan’s relevance in the future sparked widespread debate. His remark quickly went viral, prompting ardent fans to step in and defend SRK’s enduring superstardom. Now, the actor has offered a detailed clarification, stressing that his words were taken out of context and reiterating that he is, in fact, a longtime admirer of Shah Rukh Khan.In a recent conversation, Vivek explained that his intention was to highlight how fame is temporary, while the impact of one’s actions lasts far longer. Drawing parallels between Raj Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor, he said that while stardom changes with generations, meaningful contributions leave behind a lasting legacy.

Vivek Oberoi Says By 2050, People Might Ask ‘Kaun Shah Rukh Khan?’

Speaking during a podcast with Dr Vivek Bindra and Sharan Hegde, he addressed how his statement was misconstrued. “I would like to say that whoever spread this statement, I would give them 100 points for volume, because they did a great job and that too, very quickly. But for context, I would give zero..minus hundred points. Content was delivered, but context wasn’t.”Emphasising his personal bond with SRK, Vivek made it clear that there is nothing but respect and affection between them. “I am a big fan of Shah bhai. And, not only as an actor, but also personal life. He has been there for me. He has given me so much love. Even today, he gives me love, blessings, and so much support. When we meet, he meets happily. He shares the joy in my success, I share the joy in Aaryan’s (Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aaryan Khan) success. So, that is the relationship we have, since decades,” he shared. The actor further elaborated by referring to legendary figures from cinema and beyond, noting how younger audiences may not fully grasp their contributions today. He reiterated that goodwill and positive actions are what truly stand the test of time. “I just said that one should do good work in life. Superstardom, money, all these things are transient. Today, Jeff Bezos was the world’s billionaire, but suddenly Elon Musk came in the picture and became the richest man on the planet. Tomorrow, it will be someone else. Once upon a time, Dilip Kumar sahab and Raj Kapoor sahab were superstars, legends, but today’s generation knows Ranbir Kapoor. They don’t have Raj Kapoor’s context,” he explained.Expanding on his earlier point, Vivek added, “So, I said that Shah bhai is a superstar, legend for our generation… for me. We are such big fans, have been watching his films since college days. But, after 25 years, will people remember him as a superstar? I don’t know. But will people remember his good deeds? He did good deeds, people remember that generationally. Even today, Jamshed Ji Tata is remembered for his good work. So, even 100 years ago, someone did a good job and left a legacy. That legacy lives longer. That was the context of my statement.”Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Vivek had questioned how stardom is perceived across eras and said, “Which film, starring who worked in the 1960s, you ask anyone about that today, nobody cares. You will anyway be relegated to history. 2050 mein log bolenge kaun Shah Rukh Khan, shayad (In 2050, people might ask, ‘Who is Shah Rukh Khan?’, perhaps). Like people today might ask, ‘Who is Raj Kapoor?’ You and I, we call him the god of cinema but if you ask any youngster who is a fan of Ranbir Kapoor, they might not even know who Raj Kapoor was. So maybe history relegates you into nothingness.”On the work front, Vivek Oberoi was last seen in the historical action drama ‘Kesari Veer’. He has a busy slate ahead, with projects such as Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s pan-India film ‘Spirit’, Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’, and ‘Mastiii 4’ lined up. Go to Source
