Watch: Trump goes off-topic and talks about wife Melania's undergarments

Donald Trump sparked laughter and surprise at a North Carolina rally on Friday when he went off-topic to talk about his wife and first lady Melania’s undergarments. The MAGA chief was addressing inflation and efforts to lower drug prices ahead of the 2026 midterm elections in Rocky Mount, but turned to a personal topic about the FBI raid on his Mar-a-Lago resort in 2022.“They went into my wife’s closet … they looked at her drawers,” Trump said, referring to Melania. The GOP leader then said: “Her undergarments, sometimes referred to as panties, are folded perfect, wrapped. They’re, like, so perfect.” He even joked about her maintenance habits, saying, “I think that she steams them.” The comments came in the context of the 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid. The operation was conducted as part of a criminal investigation after the National Archives and Records Administration reported that 15 boxes of presidential documents had been removed from the property at the end of Trump’s first term. The FBI aimed to find evidence related to potential obstruction of justice, mishandling of classified records, and possible violations of the Espionage Act. Among the materials recovered were 11 sets of classified documents, including some marked “top secret,” intended for secure government facilities only.Trump has faced a lot of legal setbacks over the past decade. In June 2023, he was indicted by a federal grand jury over alleged mishandling of classified documents. He pleaded not guilty and while additional counts were later added, the case was dismissed in July 2024. Other high-profile legal issues include investigations into alleged hush money payments during the 2016 presidential campaign, and his role in attempts to overturn the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
