SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh HC has directed the chief secretary to submit a detailed affidavit on what has been done to solve Shimla’s traffic congestion. A division bench of Chief Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia and Justice Jiya Lal Bhardwaj took note of an earlier action taken report, filed on Dec 28, 2024, which spoke of formation of a committee to address parking, road improvements, transport issues, enforcement mechanisms, and overall decongestion of the town.Hearing a suo motu PIL, HC noted the previous report proposed measures such as implementation of ropeway and mass rapid transport system projects but an updated affidavit was necessary to clarify progress made on these initiatives.HC emphasised Shimla Smart City Project, responsible for ropeway development, should be made party to the proceedings. The next hearing is on March 19.
