NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old woman was stabbed several times by her lover in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area after an argument over her forced abortion. Police arrested the accused, who has been sent to judicial custody, officials said Saturday. The attack took place on Tuesday at a Neha’s rented house in the Om Vihar locality. Police said an argument broke out between the woman, identified as Neha, and Yashpal (43). During the fight, Yashpal pinned her to the bed and stabbed her several times on the neck with a knife before fleeing the spot. The accused took Neha’s mobile phone and locked the house from outside before leaving. Neha raised an alarm but later lost consciousness. A neighbour informed the police, and she was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital. The police received a call about the stabbing at around 12.24 am. By the time a team reached the location, the injured woman had already been shifted to the hospital.Doctors found multiple stab wounds of different sizes on her neck. She also had abrasions on her hands and chest. Police said she was bleeding from the nose and was unconscious when brought to the hospital. Neha had been in a relationship for eight to nine years with Yashpal, a married man who works as a security guard. In November, Neha became pregnant. Police said, as cited by PTI, Yashpal allegedly gave her abortion pills without her knowledge by mixing them in a beverage, which led to the termination of the pregnancy. This led to repeated disputes between the two.A case was registered under Section 109 (Attempt to Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused was arrested the same day and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police said further investigation is ongoing.
