SRINAGAR: PDP member Iltija Mufti filed a police complaint in Srinagar on Friday against what she termed a “brutal assault” by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar “on the autonomy, identity and dignity of every Indian woman”, referring to a viral video showing him purportedly gesturing to an AYUSH graduate in a hijab to show her face and then tugging at it.Iltija’s complaint, registered at Kothibagh police station, comes days after Samajwadi Party’s national spokesperson Sumaiya Rana approached Lucknow Police for an investigation into Nitish’s alleged act during a public event in Patna last week and UP minister Sanjay Nishad’s response to it.Iltija, daughter of ex-J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti, said what Nitish allegedly did may have “emboldened lumpen elements, giving them carte blanche to humiliate and attack Muslim women”.The PDP member also criticised CM Omar Abdullah for his silence.Hurriyat conference chairperson and J&K’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said during the Friday congregation at Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid that the Bihar CM’s alleged act was “a grave violation of personal dignity and moral boundaries”.
