Dubai-based Emirates has launched a global online auction giving travellers a rare chance to secure Skywards Platinum membership valid for up to 20 years, a top-tier elite status in its frequent flyer programme. The initiative, announced by Emirates in partnership with Emirates Auction, opened bidding worldwide and supports the Emirates Airline Foundation’s charity work.

What is Emirates Skywards Platinum Elite membership?

Emirates Skywards is the airline’s loyalty programme that rewards frequent travellers with miles and tier status that unlocks exclusive privileges. The programme has four main levels: Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum is the highest and most prestigious tier in the Skywards programme. To reach it, a member must earn at least 150,000 Tier Miles in a membership year and take at least one qualifying flight in First or Business Class with Emirates or flydubai. Once earned, Platinum status comes with a host of benefits that elevate the travel experience, both in the air and on the ground. It isn’t handed out lightly, and earning it requires consistent flying and premium cabin travel.

Skywards Platinum benefits

Platinum status delivers perks that make flying more comfortable, convenient and rewarding. These include:

  • Priority services, including priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, which make airport experiences smoother.
  • Lounge access, complimentary entry for you and guests to Emirates First and Business Class lounges worldwide.
  • Bonus miles, a 100% bonus on Skywards Miles earned from flights, meaning you earn twice as fast.
  • No mileage expiration, as long as you retain Platinum status, your miles don’t expire, giving you more time to use them.
  • First Class perks even when flying in other cabins, such as access to dedicated First Class check-in at select airports (e.g., Dubai) and special ground services.

These privileges make Platinum attractive for frequent flyers and business travellers who value comfort and flexibility on every trip.

How to achieve Platinum status?

Requirement Category Annual Qualification (Standard) 20-Year Legacy Membership
Tier Miles Target 150,000 Tier Miles earned within a rolling 12-month period. Winning Auction Bid: Secure status via the Emirates Auction (ending Jan 17, 2026).
Cabin Criteria At least one qualifying flight in Business or First Class. Included in the auction package (no annual flight requirement for status).
Qualifying Carriers Flights must be on Emirates or flydubai (codeshares marketed by EK also count). Status is valid regardless of annual flight frequency for the 20-year term.
Renewal Cycle Reviewed every 12–13 months on your “Tier Review Date.” Guaranteed for 20 years without the need for annual re-qualification.
Financial Entry Purely earned through flight activity and travel spend. Proceeds from auction go to the Emirates Airline Foundation for children’s charities.

Holding Skywards Platinum year after year means you’ve unlocked not just exclusive travel benefits, but a lifestyle advantage, from smoother airport experiences to more miles and flexibility. Over 20 years it becomes more than loyalty status; it becomes part of how you travel, work and explore the world with unparalleled privileges.
