Breaking: Mumbai Monorail Stalls Amid Heavy Rains, Passengers Trapped For 4 Hours, Several Fall Ill

Heavy rains in Mumbai triggered chaos on Monday after a packed monorail came to a sudden halt between two elevated stations, leaving passengers trapped inside for nearly four hours. The disruption, caused by a power supply failure, left hundreds of commuters stranded without air conditioning or proper ventilation. As the monorail remained suspended mid-track, panic spread among passengers, with several people reportedly falling ill due to suffocation and overcrowding. Rescue operations were launched immediately, with teams from the fire brigade and engineers working for hours to safely evacuate everyone on board. While all passengers were eventually rescued without major injuries, many expressed frustration over the lack of emergency exits and poor preparedness of authorities to handle such a crisis. The incident has sparked fresh questions over the reliability and safety of Mumbai’s monorail system, especially during the monsoon season. Officials have confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered into the technical failure that led to the emergency halt.
