Rob Reiner’s son Nick arrested on suspicion of homicide; source says father and son argued at party before deaths

Rob Reiner’s son Nick Reiner has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the Hollywood director and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles on Sunday.32-year-old Nick Reiner was booked into the Los Angeles County jail on suspicion of homicide and is being held on $4 million bail. Police have not released details about the exact cause of death.Los Angeles police are investigating the deaths as a homicide after the couple were found inside their home. Law enforcement sources said there were no signs of forced entry and that both victims had injuries consistent with being stabbed. One of the couple’s children is believed to have discovered the bodies and contacted authorities. TMZ reported that the couple was found with their throats slit. Family friends told the Los Angeles Times that Rob and Nick Reiner had an argument on Saturday night at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien. Several people at the gathering reportedly noticed Nick acting strangely.Nick Reiner has spoken publicly in the past about his long struggle with drug addiction. As a teenager, he cycled in and out of rehabilitation centres and experienced periods of homelessness. He later recounted his experiences in interviews and through film.By 2015, Nick had reportedly become sober and worked with his father on the film Being Charlie, a semi-autobiographical story about addiction and recovery. Rob Reiner directed the film, which Nick co-wrote. At the time, Rob Reiner spoke openly about the emotional toll the experience had taken on his family.“It was very, very hard going through it the first time, with these painful and difficult highs and lows,” Reiner said. “And then making the movie dredged it all up again.”Right-wing political commentator Laura Loomer weighed in on the case in a post on X. She said that the government needs to be stricter with drug addicts: “The murder of Rob Reiner and his wife, allegedly by their drug addict son, is proof our society is too forgiving of addicts. We need to stop being so forgiving. Too many parents with insane kids make excuses for their damaged kids. Sometimes you can’t save your kids. Sometimes they are too far gone.”
