'Nightmare': Indian-origin woman in Long Beach, Bubbly Kaur, detained by ICE from Green Card interview; living in US since 1994

An Indian-origin woman has been detained by the ICE during her Green Card interview at Long Island, blindsiding her family members, Long Beach Watchdog reported. 60-year-old Bubblly Kaur has been living in the US since 1994 and used to operate Natraj Cuisine of India and Nepal in Long Beach, along with her husband, until the Covid pandemic. The couple has three children: 34-year-old Joti who has legal status in the US under DACA; her older brother and sister are both US citizens. Bubbly has an approved petition from her elder daughter and the daughter’s husband. Joti narrated the nightmarish experience her mother had after she went for her biometrics, the final step in getting a Green Card. Joti said when her mother was at the front desk at the office, two cars pulled up and several federal agents entered the building. Bubbly was called into the room where the federal agents went and she was told that she was being arrested. Bubbly sought to speak to her attorney and after an eight-minute call, she was still detained. Joti claimed that the family members were not informed where Bubbly was being taken. The ICE agents vaguely informed them that Bubbly might be taken to Santa Ana or LA leaving her family members panicking for a few hours before they got to know that she was taken to LA. “She was really scared. She was loaded into a van full of men with her hands and feet shackled,” Joti said, adding that her mother had no criminal record. Long Beach Congressman Robert Garcia issued a statement on Bubbly’s detention and condemned the horrific actions of ICE. “We have been in touch with the family of Bubbly. We are going to do everything we can to bring her home. These horrific actions continue to terrorize hardworking and good people who are trying to make our community a better place. Please speak up. Continue to tell her story. We must fight and do all we can to ensure she is free,” Garcia said.
