Film director Rob Reiner, wife Michele Singer found dead at Los Angeles home; stabbing suspected — what we know

Actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found dead in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon.According to TMZ, the couple was stabbed in their Los Angeles home. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division is still investigating the incident. Authorities have not released further details regarding a motive or how the deaths occurred.Officers were called to the home Sunday afternoon, where they discovered a man and woman with stab wounds, according to cops and sources. LA Fire Department paramedics were called to the home on Chadbourne Avenue around 3.30 pm.The Los Angeles Fire Department told NBC Los Angeles that a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman were found dead inside the home.Within a few minutes, LAPD officers were dispatched to the home for a report of an “ambulance death investigation,” which is LAPD terminology when officers are called by firefighters to the discovery of a death.”On December 14th, at around 1540 hours, LAPD Officers assigned to West LA Division responded to a death investigation in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue. Once inside the residence, officers discovered two decedents. The identity of the decedents has not yet been confirmed. Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) responded to the residence, which has been identified as the home of Rob Reiner,” said LAPD in a statement before the identity of the couple was confirmed.

Who was Rob Reiner?

Rob Reiner, the son of comedy legend Carl Reiner, carved out an influential career as an actor, director, writer and producer across five decades, according to the Variety. He first became a household name as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family, earning two Emmy Awards for his performance on the groundbreaking sitcom. Transitioning behind the camera, Reiner made his directorial debut with the improvisational cult classic This Is Spinal Tap (1984), in which he also appeared. He followed it with an extraordinary run of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery and A Few Good Men, showcasing rare versatility across genres. In 1987, he co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, producing numerous hits. Though his later films were less commercially successful, Reiner continued making deeply personal and political projects. A vocal progressive activist, he remained committed to storytelling over profit. His most recent work was Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.Reiner and his wife are survived by children, Jake, Nick and Romy. He was the adoptive father of actress Tracy Reiner, the daughter of his first wife, the late actress and director Penny Marshall.
