Disturbing visuals have emerged from Sydney’s Bondi Beach, where a shooting on Sunday left nine people dead and several others injured.Officials said at least eight of the injured were rushed to hospitals as police responded to the incident and urged the public to avoid the area.A 57-second video filmed from an elevated vantage point, likely a balcony or window overlooking a car park and an adjacent grassy patch, captured a tense confrontation between an armed gunman and a civilian who intervened. In the clip, gunshots rang out as people screamed and scattered across the grass and between parked cars. Several individuals ducked behind vehicles while others sprinted away from the area, suggesting panic spilling over from the nearby Hanukkah event. A man dressed in dark clothing was seen on the grass, firing a rifle as people fled in different directions.Moments later, a man wearing a white shirt and dark trousers appeared in frame. Staying low, he moved cautiously from car to car, using the vehicles as cover while closing the distance to the gunman. Shots continued to be heard as he advanced, while other bystanders kept running for safety. The man then broke from cover and lunged at the gunman, tackling him near the edge of the grassy area and car park. A brief but intense struggle followed, during which the rifle was wrested away. The gunman, now disarmed, managed to break free and retreated across the grass. The bystander briefly secured the weapon, appearing to place it against a nearby object before backing away.As the gunman ran off, another individual appeared to give chase or threw an object in his direction. The camera shook as the person filming reacted. Gunfire subsided, replaced by distant sirens and lingering shouts. One of the alleged shooters was killed, and the second was in a critical condition, officials said. Multiple patients are receiving treatment on-site, with four transported to St Vincent’s Hospital, one to Royal Prince Alfred, and one to St George Hospital, as cited by ABC News.Police have confirmed that two individuals have been taken into custody.Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called the incident “shocking and distressing”.”The scenes in Bondi are shocking and distressing. Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected,” he said in an statement.

Australian PM's statement

Israeli community reactsThe head of Australia’s Jewish Association said a shooting at Bondi beach during a Hanukkah event was a “tragedy but entirely foreseeable”.”The Albanese government was warned so many times but failed to take adequate actions to protect the Jewish community,” Robert Gregory told news agency AFP.Israeli President Isaac Herzog also condemned the shooting, calling it a “cruel attack on Jews” and urged the Australian authorities to step up the fight against antisemitism.”At these very moments, our sisters and brothers in Sydney, Australia, have been attacked by vile terrorists in a very cruel attack on Jews,” said Herzog in a speech at an event in Jerusalem, where he called on Australia to “fight against the enormous wave of antisemitism which is plaguing Australian society”.Australian Muslim body condemns shootingA major Australian Muslim organisation condemned a “horrific” shooting at Bondi Beach.”Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those who witnessed or were affected by this deeply traumatic attack,” the Australian National Imams Council said in a statement.”This is a moment for all Australians, including the Australian Muslim community, to stand together in unity, compassion, and solidarity,” they added, according to AFP.
