Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan's ex-wife Jemima Khan appeals to Elon Musk: 'My sons have not seen him in 22 months'

Jemima Khan, the ex-wife of Pakistan’s jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, has made a public plea to Elon Musk over her ex-husband’s alleged treatment in prison. Posting on X, she described how her two sons have not been allowed to see or speak to their father during his 22 months of solitary confinement. In her post, Jemima Khan said X is the only platform left where she can speak out about Imran Khan’s situation as a political prisoner. She claimed that the reach of her posts has been severely restricted. “Every time I post about him, the reach inside Pakistan and often globally is throttled to almost zero,” she said. She called on Musk to address what she described as “secret throttling” of her account, which she said prevents people from seeing her posts despite her having over 3.5 million followers. Jemima Khan included data from Grok, X’s AI, showing that while she previously averaged 400 to 900 million impressions per month, in 2025 her posts only reached 28.6 million people in total. She said the decline began in May 2025, after a spike in engagement the day Pakistan’s ban on X was lifted. She wants Musk to honour the social media platform’s free-speech promise.Imran Khan has been held in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since 2023 on multiple convictions, including corruption. His family and supporters are worried about his health and access to visits. Khan’s sons have expressed concern that authorities may be hiding information about his condition. Rumours about his death in custody have circulated online, but officials and family members have denied them. Reports indicate that he is physically well but remains isolated and under stress. At the same time, Pakistan’s government has suggested that treason charges could be brought against him.Imran Khan married Jemima Goldsmith, a British socialite and member of the Goldsmith family in 1995. At the time, Jemima was 23 and Imran was 42. The couple had two sons together, Sulaiman Isa Khan and Qasim Khan. During their marriage, Jemima lived in Pakistan and supported Imran’s political career while also managing family life. The marriage lasted nearly a decade, but they divorced in 2004.Imran Khan has been jailed since 2023 on multiple convictions, including corruption and other charges. His imprisonment has been widely criticised by supporters as politically motivated. Authorities have restricted his contact with family, and the government has indicated that treason charges could also be pursued against him.
