CRPF officer from Jind awarded Union home minister’s Medal

CHANDIGARH: Dinesh Khatak, second-in-command (2-IC) of the 196 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been honoured with the prestigious “Kendriya Grah Mantri Dakshata Padak” (Union Home Minister’s Efficiency Medal) for his outstanding service, discipline, and remarkable contribution to national security. The award, given by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), recognizes personnel who demonstrate exceptional efficiency and dedication.A native of Intel Kalan village in Jind district, Dinesh joined the CRPF as a Gazetted Officer in 2005 after clearing the UPSC examination. He completed his schooling at SD High School and graduation from Government PG College, Jind. During his deployments in Jammu and Kashmir—from 2008 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2021—he played key roles in managing the Amarnath Yatra, maintaining law and order, and serving during crucial phases such as the abrogation of Article 370 and the COVID-19 pandemic.Known as an excellent instructor, Dinesh significantly contributed to advancing commando training at CIAT Shivpuri. Currently posted in the Naxal-affected Bijapur district, he has led major security and relief initiatives, including establishing new forward camps and participating in KGH Special Operations.Colleagues describe him as disciplined and committed, a leader who always leads from the front. His recognition has brought immense pride to his family and the entire Jind district. Expressing gratitude, Dinesh said the honour was made possible with the support of his colleagues and seniors. His classmate, Vikram Dhanda, who is a professor in Jind college recalled that Dinesh has always been very sharp and hardworking in his studies during school and college days.
