Royal Bristol theft: Over 600 artifacts stolen from British museum; 4 suspects caught on CCTV

More than 600 artefacts of significant cultural value were stolen from the Bristol museum’s archive in a high-value raid on September 25, Avon and Somerset Police said on Thursday. Four men gained entry to a building in the Cumberland Basin area during the early hours and are believed to have targeted items from the museum’s British Empire and Commonwealth collection. Detectives are now reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out forensic investigations to trace the suspects, reported BBC.Detective constable Dan Burgan described the theft as a “significant loss for the city.” He said, “These items, many of which were donations, form part of a collection that provides insight into a multi-layered part of British history, and we are hoping that members of the public can help us to bring those responsible to justice.” Police are appealing to anyone who recognizes the men in the CCTV footage or has seen any of the stolen artefacts being sold online. All four suspects are thought to be white:Suspect 1: Medium to stocky build, wearing a white cap, black jacket, light-colored trousers, and black trainers.Suspect 2: Slim build, grey hooded jacket, black trousers, black trainers.Suspect 3: Green cap, black jacket, light-colored shorts, white trainers; walks with a slight limp in the right leg. Suspect 4: Large build, two-toned orange and navy or black puffy jacket, black trousers, black and white trainers.Burgan added, “So far, our enquiries have included significant CCTV enquiries as well as forensic investigations and speaking liaising with the victims.”Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
