Peak philanthropy: Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott donates $7 billion in a single year

MacKenzie Scott has revealed that she donated nearly $7.2 billion in 2025, according to an updated post on her Yield Giving platform. The disclosure brings her total lifetime contributions to more than $26 billion. Her latest update includes 225 new grants across education, climate work and community support, continuing her pattern of providing large, unrestricted funding to organisations working in underserved areas.

MacKenzie Scott’s major donations this year

Scott’s updated disclosures show that she supported 225 organisations. Her largest gift was $90 million to Forests, People, Climate, which works to reduce tropical deforestation. She also provided $70 million each to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the United Negro College Fund, strengthening institutions that expand scholarship opportunities for underrepresented students.

Focus areas in her philanthropy

Scott’s giving spans several key sectors, including education, climate and environmental protection, public health and social services, and equity-focused organisations that support racial justice, immigrant communities and economic mobility. Many recipients have been funded by her in previous years, reflecting her long-term commitment to these causes. Her median donation remains far larger than the sector’s typical grant size. Recent analysis puts her median gift at about $5 million, compared with the roughly $123,000 median among foundations. Scott continues to give without imposing conditions on how the funds must be used, a practice she first established in 2020.

Her stated intentions

Scott joined the Giving Pledge in 2019 with a commitment to donate at least half of her wealth. In her updated note, she wrote that financial totals represent only one part of charitable activity, emphasising that many forms of giving support community wellbeing. Yield Giving has now been updated to reflect all newly listed contributions.
