Google Photos is getting a new AI feature called Remix

Google talked about the Remix AI feature for Photos app that is coming out in the next few weeks. And now the company is giving more details about its new tool and how it works in the background to convert photos into video clips.

The new update is available for Photos users in the US on Android and iOS. Google says, “just select a picture from your gallery and choose from one of the two prompts.” These are ‘subtle movements’ and ‘I’m feeling lucky’ that come on the screen when you choose the photo to convert into a video.

Google’s new AI feature works in the Photos app and chooses how they want to style the image that they pick from the local gallery on their phone. In addition to 6-second video clips from photos, Google is now supporting the ability to make your favourite photos into anime, sketches, or even 3D animations.

You can share these edited images with other people like any other image. The company even has the option to change a photo which is unlikely to match the original image and is mostly seen as an experimental feature.

Google Photos Remix: How To Use

  • Open the Photos app
  • Click on Create from the top-right of the screen
  • Tap on Remix
  • Click on Try now to see how the feature works
  • Select a photo to Remix
  • Tap on Generate to get the photo in a new style
  • You can save or share the photo

People will soon start seeing a new Create tab next to Photos, Collections and Search on the bottom bar. You can use the tool to make photos into a collage, highlight videos and more. The new tab will be coming to Photos users in the US in the next few months.

And it goes without saying that like most of the Google AI features, any image or video created using these tools will carry a visual watermark to help people identify it with an AI-altered or generated image.
