NEW DELHI: Candidates from the BJP, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and Plurals Party are locked in a closely fought contest in Bihar’s Darbhanga Assembly constituency, as polling concluded on November 11, 2025, in the second phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections. The high-stakes seat, known for its urban voter base and strong BJP presence, is witnessing a multi-cornered fight this time, with sitting MLA Sanjay Saraogi (BJP) facing challenges from Umesh Sahani (VIP) and Pushpam Priya (PP).

Voting detailsDarbhanga recorded a voter turnout of 78.12%, significantly higher than its 2020 turnout of 55.79%, indicating strong voter engagement this year. Statewide, Bihar witnessed a record average turnout of 66.91%, suggesting heightened electoral participation across constituencies.

Constituency at a glanceDarbhanga is one of the 243 Assembly constituencies in Bihar and has long been a politically active urban hub. Situated in the heart of the Mithilanchal region, it has a mix of traditional loyalty and evolving political dynamics.In the 2020 Assembly election, BJP’s Sanjay Saraogi retained the seat with 84,144 votes (49.32%), defeating RJD’s Amar Nath Gami, who polled 73,505 votes (43.08%), a margin of 10,639 votes.In 2015, Saraogi had also emerged victorious, securing 77,776 votes (47.66%) against RJD’s Om Prakash Kheria, who received 70,316 votes (43.09%), winning by a slimmer margin of 7,460 votes.
