‘Coolie’ crosses Rs 200 crore in India on Monday

Rajinikanth's 'Coolie' crosses Rs 200 crore on Monday, while Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR's 'WAR 2' sees a huge drop

The much awaited Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ also starring Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra Rao, Shruti Haasan and Aamir Khan released in cinemas on August 14. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial was one of the most awaited films this year. While it had a huge start with the day 1 number in India being Rs 65 crore and the worldwide collection crossing Rs 100 crore itself, the numbers started seeing a drop from day 2 onwards due to the mixed reviews and many fans being hugely disappointed. Some people also felt that while Rajinikanth’s presence was the best part, the film did not do justice to his legendary status. However, despite mixed reviews, the film has crossed Rs 200 crore on day 5, Monday which is huge. After opening at Rs 65 crore, it made Rs 54.75 crore on Independence day. Meanwhile, on Saturday and Sunday respectively, it made Rs 39.5 crore and Rs 35.25 crore respectively. ‘Coolie’ which is essentially a Tamil film, also had its dubbed versions released in Hindi, Telugu and Kannada. On Monday, it has seen a huge drop and made Rs 8.37 crore till the evening shows. But with that, the film has now crossed Rs 200 crore at the Indian box office. The total collection now is Rs 202.87 according to Sacnilk. Meanwhile, ‘War 2’ had clashed with ‘Coolie’ and this Hrithik Rosahn, Jr NTR starrer also saw a drop on Monday. On Sunday, the total collection of ‘War 2’ in all languages was Rs 31.3 crore which was a drop from the Saturday numbers. And now on Monday, of course, it is expected that the film will be recording lower numbers when compared to the weekend. It has started on a slow note on day 5, Monday and has made Rs 6.66 crore till evening. The total collection of the film has now crossed Rs 180 crore.
