Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal passed away earlier today at the age of 98, leaving behind a cinematic legacy that spans over seven decades. From her debut in the Cannes-winning ‘Neecha Nagar’ to her memorable roles in modern hits like ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Kabir Singh’. Known for her grace, warmth, and honesty on screen, she worked with legends from Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna to Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor, proving that true talent is timeless.

Why Kamini Kaushal chose a small role in ‘Chennai Express’

One of Kaushal’s appearances on screen was in ‘Chennai Express’ (2013), where she played Shah Rukh Khan’s grandmother. During the film’s promotions, she explained why she accepted the role after years away from the big screen.

She revealed, “Maybe the audience will be a bit surprised with the fact that why I suddenly turned up on the screen after so many years of not working and no exposure on the big screen. The thing is, when Shah Rukh asked me to do this little role, I said to myself, it really would be an odd thing that after having worked for 60 years in films, I haven’t done one film with Shah Rukh.

I just had to do it. So that is how ‘Chennai Express’ happened. Even though it’s a small role, but I hope you will accept it, and my pleasure to having worked with Shah Rukh is really welcoming. I’m glad I did it.”Even though her part was brief, Kaushal brought warmth and charm to the character, showing that her talent had not faded with time.

She played grandmother in ‘Kabir Singh’

Following ‘Chennai Express’, Kaushal appeared in ‘Kabir Singh’ (2019) by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, portraying Shahid Kapoor’s grandmother. Her role became memorable, particularly on social media, where fans shared clips of her character’s heartfelt advice to Kabir.Reflecting on her part at the Star Screen Awards, she said, “Well, it was a minuscule role.
