The last rites of Twisha Sharma were performed at a crematorium in Bhopal on Sunday, after her body was handed over to the family following the completion of key medical formalities. The funeral took place amid mounting public attention on the case, with the family continuing to demand justice in the alleged dowry death matter. Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to take suo motu cognisance of the case, Twisha Sharma’s cousin Ashish Sharma said the family had struggled to secure a second post-mortem examination and expressed hope that the apex court’s intervention would help ensure justice. “We are grateful for this verdict by the Supreme Court that will restore faith in justice. We had to struggle a lot for the second post-mortem. At least the family will now be able to carry out the last rites, which will be done soon after the medical procedures,” Ashish Sharma said. His remarks came as a four-member team of senior doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences arrived in Bhopal to conduct a second autopsy, in compliance with directions issued by the Madhya Pradesh high court. Also read: ‘Twisha Sharma’s last rites to be held after medical procedures’- What we know so farTwisha’s uncle, Lokesh Sharma, also voiced confidence in the judicial process following the Supreme Court’s intervention. “A common man can just have faith since the Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognisance.
