Suriya opens up on ‘Karuppu’ financial struggles

Suriya reveals major financial hurdles behind RJ Balaji’s ‘Karuppu’ as the film crosses Rs 200 crore figure worldwide

Tamil superstar Suriya’s ‘Karuppu’ is enjoying a successful run at the box office. Following its fruitful response among the mass audience, Suriya recently attended a special meet-and-greet event with the press and fans in Chennai. The actor spoke about the journey behind Karuppu and the difficulties faced during production.

Suriya opens up about financial problems

During the interaction, Suriya revealed that the production team faced financial troubles while making the film. He shared that some important decisions were taken even during a difficult period. Talking about the climax song, Suriya said, “We shot that climax song five months after locking the edit. Even after filming was completed, one of the assistants suggested adding a song dedicated to Karuppasamy despite the financial hurdles.”The actor explained that the song was filmed when the production house was already facing financial pressure. Despite those challenges, the team decided to move ahead because they believed it would add more value to the film.

About ‘Karuppu’

In the film, Suriya plays Karuppuswamy, while director RJ Balaji also appears as the antagonist Advocate Baby Kannan. The ending of ‘Karuppu’ hints that Karuppuswamy’s fight is not over yet. After dealing with problems in the judicial system, the story suggests that a new battle could take place in the political world. The film also teases a possible face-off called Karuppu vs Vellai, hinting at a sequel.

Cast of ‘Karuppu’

Apart from Suriya and RJ Balaji, the film features Trisha Krishnan, Shivada, Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi and Swasika in important roles. Sai Abhyankkar’s music and background score have also received praise from audiences.According to trade analyst Sacnilk, ‘Karuppu’ has achieved collections of Rs 133.85 crore in India across 50,904 shows over nine days. Additionally, the global collections stand at Rs 217.74 crore.
